New Delhi: The Patiala House Court on Friday extended the judicial custody of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack accused Tahawwur Rana till July 9. Rana, a key conspirator in the 2008 terror strikes, appeared before the court via video conferencing. During the hearing, Rana's counsel raised concerns over his health condition. Taking note of the issue, the court directed the Tihar jail authorities to file a detailed status report by June 9 regarding his medical status and overall condition. Rana, who was extradited from the United States in May to face trial in India, had earlier approached the Special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court seeking permission to speak with his family members over the phone. His plea was filed on May 27. Rana argued that his communication with his family was important for their peace of mind and to address concerns about his well-being. This is not the first time Rana has made such a request. On April 24, a similar application was rejected by Special Judge Chander Jit Singh, following strong opposition from the NIA.
