SRINAGAR, Apr 8: Celebrations broke out in several parts of Kashmir today after the announcement of a two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States, with people hailing Iran's resilience during the war and saying it forced Washington to come to the negotiating table. Hundreds of people from across the Valley took to the streets to celebrate the development that followed 40 days of hostilities in West Asia. Large gatherings were witnessed in Shia-dominated areas like Zadibal and Saidakadal in Srinagar, as well as several parts of central Kashmir's Budgam district. Similar celebrations were also witnessed in north Kashmir's Baramulla district and in south Kashmir's Pulwama. The celebrations took place a day after a ceasefire was announced late Tuesday night, just hours after a strong warning from the U.S. president that had risen fears of a major escalation and caused concern around the world. Despite light rain, groups marched through local areas carrying Iranian flags and raising slogans in support of Iran.
