Barwani (Madhya Pradesh): Eight people were attacked by an animal in Barwani village on Wednesday morning and four of them were brought to Indore's MY Hospital for further treatment. The victims brought to Indore were Ritika (4), Kajal (4), Rishika (7) and Aarti (45), all residents of Kermala village. All of them had bite marks on their faces and ears. These attacks are part of a bigger problem that started on May 5. Since then, more than 20 people have been attacked by animals. Six people have died from these attacks and four animals have also been killed. While officials claim that the latest attack was by a dog, the locals are not entirely convinced. The situation has become so bad that families are afraid to leave their homes. One family has already moved from their village completely. People stay inside even during the day because they are scared. Limbai village sarpanch's husband Rakesh Jamre Rakesh Jamre says the animal always attacks people's faces. Most attacks happen early in the morning between 4 and 6 am in Limbai and Bhairav Ghat areas. He said that the government has tried to find this animal using drones, cameras and cages, but nothing has worked so far. The mystery animal remains hidden and continues to attack people. Local people are worried and are holding special prayers and religious ceremonies in the village temple. They hope this will protect them from more attacks. One man, Rajendra Raghuvanshi, says his father Dugdu and uncle Muralidhar were also attacked on June 1. His son was bitten on the face and hand while sleeping outside after returning from a wedding at 2 am. The boy needed hospital treatment and stitches. Mystery animal a jackal? In a related developed a jackal carcass was found near Limbai village and officials believe that this animal was responsible for the earlier attacks that led to the deaths of at least six people. The jackal's body has been disposed of, and officials expect that no further attacks will take place.
