New Delhi, Apr 8 (PTI) The Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) under Ministry of Defence has signed an MoU with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to collaborate on metro rail projects in India and overseas, marking a step towards expanding integrated urban mobility solutions. The MoU seeks to establish a framework for cooperation between the two organisations to jointly identify, pursue and execute metro projects across domestic and international markets and the partnership will leverage BEML's manufacturing strength and DMRC's expertise in project implementation and operations, according to a statement. BEML Chairman and Managing Director Shantanu Roy said the association is expected to strengthen the company's presence in the rail and metro segment, noting that the combination of rolling stock manufacturing and operational expertise would enable the two entities to offer end-to-end and competitive solutions. He added that the understanding is aimed at exploring areas of mutual interest and enhancing cooperation in metro rail systems. DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar termed the agreement a significant collaboration, saying it could contribute to improving urban transport systems in India and abroad. He highlighted the need for developing indigenous propulsion systems and tunnel boring machines for upcoming infrastructure projects, and said the partnership could support such efforts under the broader focus on self-reliance. Kumar said the development comes as BEML expands its global footprint, including securing an overseas order for metro rolling stock in the African region.
