JNU student's case: Court defers order on closure report | Delhi News - Times of India

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Thursday deferred pronouncement of the order on the acceptance of CBI's closure report in the case of the disappearance of JNU student Najeeb Ahmed, missing since Oct 2016.Additional chief judicial magistrate Jyoti Maheshwari posted the matter for June 30 after seeking clarifications from the CBI.After Ahmed was reported missing, his mother, Fatima Naees, moved court. The court directed CBI to take over the case. In Oct 2018, the agency closed its investigation, claiming that efforts to trace Ahmed had yielded no result.Ahmed was reported missing from the Mahi-Mandvi hostel of JNU on Oct 15, 2016, following an alleged assault by students affiliated to ABVP a day before. On April 7 this year, CBI told the court that Ahmed had refused his medical examination during his visit to Safdarjung Hospital. The CBI referred to Ahmed as deceased in the documents given to the court. The investigating officer told the court that the statement of a doctor or medical attendant at Safdarjung was not taken as no document pertaining to Ahmed's visit was there. "Moreover, upon visiting the hospital, Ahmed was advised to get an MLC prepared. However, Ahmed, accompanied by his friend Md. Quasim, went back to the hostel and did not get any MLC prepared," the IO told the court. The central probe agency made the submission while arguing in its closure report and a protest plea filed against it by Ahmed's mother, Fatima Nafees. The case was earlier probed by Delhi Police but later transferred to CBI.
