Nagaland: NPF working for political integration of Nagas across borders, says CM Rio

Dimapur: Nagaland Chief Minister and Naga People's Front (NPF) president Neiphiu Rio on Saturday said that while the Naga people are yet to be physically integrated, the party remains committed to achieving their "political integration" across borders. Addressing a consultative meeting of the NPF at Chiephobozou, Rio reiterated the party's commitment to safeguarding the welfare, identity and traditions of the Naga people. He described the NPF as a party rooted in Naga history and positioned as a custodian of the community's cultural and political legacy. Rio asserted that the NPF has consistently articulated the Naga historical perspective and produced leaders dedicated to public service. He urged party members to strengthen the organisation and work collectively towards the advancement of the Naga people. Expressing concern over the slow progress in resolving the Naga political issue, Rio criticised the lack of implementation of agreements signed between Naga underground groups and the Government of India. "Many agreements have been signed, but none have been implemented. Unless this changes, no solution will arrive," he said, underscoring the need for tangible action. NPF secretary general and MLA Achumbemo Kikon highlighted the party's grassroots approach, aimed at preserving Naga identity while guiding the community through changing political circumstances. He said the NPF has played a pivotal role over the past six decades and was founded to work towards an honourable, inclusive and acceptable resolution to the Naga political issue. Kikon emphasised that meaningful progress would depend on concrete steps toward implementing agreements and addressing long-standing aspirations of the Naga people.
