Meerut, Apr 3 (UNI) Three men died late today evening after allegedly consuming country-made liquor in the Daurala police station area of Meerut district, officials said. According to reports, the victims had purchased liquor from a government-authorized shop and consumed it together around 7:30 PM near the outlet. After returning to their respective homes, their health suddenly deteriorated. They began experiencing vomiting and severe stomach pain before collapsing unconscious. Family members rushed the three men to a private hospital, where they died one after another during treatment. The deceased have been identified as Jitendra (45), a resident of Dayanandpuri Ward No. 12, Daulat (25), a resident of Saraswati Colony and Sachin. Both Jitendra and Daulat worked at a grocery shop owned by Sachin, son of Baburam, who also reportedly consumed liquor with them. Following the deaths of all the three, angry family members created a ruckus at the hospital, demanding strict action. Senior district officials, including the District Magistrate Dr. V.K. Singh and Senior Superintendent of Police Avinash Pandey, reached the hospital and later inspected the liquor shop. The Excise department conducted a raid at the shop from where the liquor was purchased. Authorities seized empty tetra packs and several cartons of liquor from the premises. Two individuals, including the salesman, have been taken into custody for questioning. Dr. Prafull Chauhan, Emergency Medical Officer at Aryavart Hospital, stated that initial observations suggest the possibility of consumption of a toxic substance. However, the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report. Police officials said that approximately nine cartons from the same batch had been sold, but no other cases of illness have been reported so far. All remaining liquor stock from the shop has been seized for testing. The families of the deceased have filed complaints against the liquor vendor and are demanding strict legal action. Authorities have assured a thorough investigation, and further steps will be taken based on the Excise department's report.
