New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh Anti Terrorism Squad has foiled a major terror plot with the arrest of four men allegedly linked to a Pakistan based module. Officials said the accused were planning attacks on railway infrastructure and key locations to spread fear and destabilise the country. The arrests were made on Thursday after the ATS intercepted the group during the planning stage of the operation. Ghazwa-e-Hind motive, foreign links Investigators said the conspiracy was driven by the idea of "Ghazwa-e-Hind," which radical groups use to describe a campaign aimed at establishing Islamic rule in India. Officials said the accused were in regular contact with handlers based in Pakistan through encrypted platforms such as Telegram, Signal and Instagram. They allegedly shared sensitive information and received instructions to identify targets and carry out attacks. Who are the accused? The main accused has been identified as Saqib alias Devil, 25, a resident of Agwanpur in Meerut district. Police said he worked as a barber and acted as the main link with the handlers. Another accused, Arbaab, 20, is also from the same village. Two others, Vikas Gehlawat alias Raunak, 27 and Lokesh alias Papla Pandit alias Babu alias Sanju, 19, both from Gautam Buddh Nagar, were allegedly recruited through social media and assisted in reconnaissance in return for money. Railway infrastructure on radar Officials said the group carried out recce of railway signal boxes and installations in cities such as Ghaziabad, Aligarh and Lucknow. They allegedly sent videos of minor arson to their handlers and received payments through QR codes. The ATS said the accused planned to target railway signalling equipment and property near Lucknow's Charbagh railway station using flammable and explosive materials. The plan was stopped before execution. Arrests and recovery A case has been registered at the ATS police station in Lucknow under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. "During the investigation, it was revealed that the accused were acting on instructions from Pakistani handlers to carry out anti national activities and create fear," officials said. Police recovered a container filled with flammable substance, seven smartphones, 24 pamphlets and identity documents from the accused. The four accused have been produced before a court, and further investigation is underway.
