Visakhapatnam: India's defence sector takes a major leap forward as the fourth stealth frigate of the Nilgiri class Taragiri (F41) gets commissioned into the Indian Navy on April 3 (Friday). Commissioning the warship at the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh underlined that Taragiri is an epitome of India's growing maritime power. "About 95 percent of India's trade is carried out through maritime routes. The navy is a symbol of the country's values and commissioning of INS Taragiri will further strengthen the navy's power and commitment," the Defence Minister mentioned. Armed with BrahMos SSM, MFSTAR and MRSAM, the ship is integrated with a combat management system, ensuring the crew can respond to threats with split-second precision. With indigenous content exceeding 75 percent, the warship is armed with supersonic BrahMos missiles, the MF-STAR radar system, MRSAM and Barak anti-aircraft missile systems, among other advanced weapon systems.
