Temple chariot accident claims life of 24-year-old in Chennai

CHENNAI: A 24-year-old man who was critically injured after a temple chariot ran over his leg during a procession last week has died in hospital on Thursday morning. According to the police, the victim, identified as Gubendiran, son of Karunanithi, a resident of New Street in Mannady, Chennai, succumbed to his injuries at Stanley Hospital on Friday morning. He had been undergoing inpatient treatment there since the accident on March 29. According to the North Beach Police, the incident occurred on the evening of March 29 at approximately 4:15 pm near the compound wall of the Arulmigu Malleeswarar Temple on Linghi Chetty Street, Mannady. The temple's annual chariot festival was underway, and the victim was part of the team pulling the chariot.
