NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police had stopped the burial of a girl and registered a murder case after allegations surfaced that she had been killed by her family members in the Hari Nagar area, officials said on Thursday. According to police, a PCR call was received on Wednesday around 2 pm, with the caller alleging that the girl had been killed by her family and her body was being taken for burial. The caller also claimed that she was in a relationship with his cousin. A police team rushed to the spot and found that the body was in the process of being taken for burial. During inquiry, it was revealed that following her death, the family had made arrangements and initiated the burial process, a senior police officer said. However, after the PCR call, the burial was halted and the body was kept at the spot. Police questioned the caller and found that his cousin was a friend of the deceased. The cousin had informed him and suspected foul play by the girl's family, prompting the PCR call, an officer said. After preliminary inquiry, crime and forensic teams were called to inspect the scene. The body was later preserved at the mortuary of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for further evaluation. As per the post-mortem report, the cause of death was smothering, police said. A murder case has been registered at Hari Nagar police station, and investigation is underway. Prima facie, it appears the family opposed her relationship. All concerned persons are being questioned, and all angles are being examined to establish the sequence of events and determine the exact role of those involved.
