Delhi Secretariat asks departments to act on PAC liquor report by January 2027

NEW DELHI: Aiming to ensure accountability and time-bound compliance with legislative oversight, the Delhi Secretariat -- following the adoption of the Second Report of the Committee on Public Accounts on the Comptroller and Auditor General of India's performance audit of liquor regulation and supply in Delhi -- has directed the departments to review the Committee's recommendations and submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) reflecting the status till December 31, 2026, by January 31, 2027. Speaker Vijender Gupta flagged 'systemic' failures in the excise framework and called for time-bound action on the recommendations of the PAC. A formal communication has been issued to the Delhi Minister of Excise and the Principal Secretary calling for a comprehensive and time-bound response to the findings and recommendations of the panel, thereby initiating a follow-up process at departmental level. The Delhi Secretariat, on Thursday, said that the direction marks the commencement of a critical follow-up exercise and respond within a defined timeline. The move is aimed at ensuring that the observations of the PAC translate into concrete administrative action and measurable outcomes.
