WARANGAL: Tension prevailed in Manikyam Thanda of Chennaraopet mandal in Warangal district on Wednesday night after clashes broke out between relatives of Boda Sravanthi and police during her final rites. Sravanthi had allegedly killed her two sons and died by suicide in Kukatpally earlier this week, with her family alleging harassment by her husband, Praveen. Police said the situation escalated when the ambulance carrying the bodies was stopped at the outskirts of the village and authorities directed the family to conduct the last rites at a designated cremation ground. Relatives, however, insisted on taking the bodies to Praveen's house, where pits had been dug in the front yard. During the confrontation, some family members threw chilli powder at police personnel, forcing them to withdraw briefly. The relatives then buried the two children in front of the house. Sravanthi's body was later cremated in a nearby field belonging to the family. A heavy police presence was deployed, but officials said they faced difficulty in controlling the crowd amid heightened emotions. The village had already witnessed unrest following the deaths, with an angry mob setting fire to Praveen's residence. His parents left the village fearing retaliation. Police have also deployed security near the residence of a woman whom Praveen had married recently, anticipating possible attacks. The incident in Kukatpally is under investigation, with the family alleging that harassment and a second marriage led to the deaths. Police said security has been tightened in the village to prevent further violence, as tensions remain high.
