Tumakuru (Karnataka): In a chilling case of murder and betrayal, a woman and her lover allegedly killed her husband and dumped his body nearly 30 kilometers away in an attempt to cover up the crime. The incident occurred on June 24 in Kadashettihalli village, located in Tiptur taluk of Tumakuru district. Illicit Affair Leads To Killing The victim, 50-year-old Shankaramurthy, had been living alone in a farmhouse. His wife, Sumangala, worked as a cook at the Kalpataru Girls' Hostel in Tiptur. According to an NDTV report quoting the police, she was engaged in an extramarital affair with Nagaraju, a resident of Karadalusante village. The two allegedly conspired to eliminate Shankaramurthy, believing he was a hurdle to their relationship. On the day of the crime, Sumangala is said to have first thrown chili powder into her husband's eyes to incapacitate him. She then attacked him with a wooden club and allegedly killed him by pressing her foot on his neck, police said. After committing the murder, the accused wrapped Shankaramurthy's body in a gunny sack and transported it nearly 30 kilometers to a farm under the jurisdiction of Dandanishivara Police Station in Turuvekere taluk. There, they dumped the body into a well, hoping to erase any evidence of the crime. The case initially began as a missing person complaint filed at the Nonavinakere Police Station. However, during the police investigation, officers noticed telltale signs at the farmhouse, including traces of chilli powder and indications of a violent struggle on the victim's bed. These clues intensified suspicion and led to deeper inquiries. Accused Woman Confesses To Husband's Killing Police then interrogated Sumangala and reviewed her mobile call records, which revealed frequent communication with Nagaraju. Under sustained questioning, she eventually confessed to her involvement in the murder and detailed how the crime was executed. A murder case was formally registered at the Nonavinakere Police Station, and both Sumangala and Nagaraju have been taken into custody. Investigations are ongoing to establish the full sequence of events and to uncover whether anyone else may have aided them in the crime.
