Punjab & Haryana HC gets fresh bomb threat via email; security tightened

Chandigarh, April 2 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court was placed on high alert on Thursday following a fresh bomb threat received via email, prompting a search operation by the Chandigarh police. The threat comes on the heels of a recent blast outside the Punjab BJP headquarters, heightening security concerns across the city. The threatening communication was reportedly received around 12:30 pm, coinciding with the court's scheduled lunch break. This timing meant that the judicial proceedings were largely paused, allowing security forces to mobilize quickly without causing panic. Upon receiving the alert, specialized teams of the Chandigarh police rushed to the premises and conducted an exhaustive sweep of the entire complex, meticulously inspecting every courtroom and common area. While the search operation did not yield any suspicious objects or explosive devices, the incident caused considerable alarm, as this marks the fourth such threat directed at the High Court in recent months. While previous threats were sent to the official email address of the High Court Registrar, officials indicated that the latest communication was sent directly to the police headquarters. Security measures at the High Court have been further fortified following the incident. While strict frisking and identity checks are part of the standard protocol for entering the court premises, additional personnel have been deployed to monitor the perimeter.
