Aizawl: Two associations representing employees and teachers of the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) have announced an indefinite "pen-down strike" from Thursday, citing a deepening financial crisis within the council. The decision was taken at a joint meeting of the Chakma District Council Employees' Association (CDCEA) and the Chakma District Council Teachers' Association (CDCTA) held on Tuesday. During the meeting, members reviewed a petition submitted to the Governor on March 16, outlining the severe hardships faced by staff who have not received salaries for over four and a half months. Association leaders expressed concern over the absence of any response from the Governor's office, describing the inaction as alarming in the face of a worsening administrative and humanitarian situation. They stated that the prolonged delay in salary disbursement has significantly affected daily life, disrupting access to education and healthcare, and undermining the socio-economic stability of the region. The strike will be observed across all CADC-run offices and departments, including educational institutions, as a mark of protest against the continued non-payment of wages. Officials of the state's District Council and Minority Affairs Department, as well as Lok Bhavan, could not be reached for comment.
