On 31st March (Tuesday), officials in Hyderabad said that a 19-year-old man named Mohammed Fahaad was apprehended for sexually abusing his 5-year-old cousin, recording the horrific act and posting it online. "The incident came to light after the Child Protection Unit of Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) analysed evidence received through the Child Sexual Exploitative and Abusive Material (CSEAM) tipline," the official statement read. The little girl's parents were reportedly oblivious of the actions of the offender, who is a second-year degree student. The TGCSB was able to identify the culprit after closely examining the footage that was sent to the CPU via the tipline. He also admitted to violating the child, who is his close relative, after the interrogation. Mohammed regularly went to her house and committed the crime by bringing her to the terrace. Notably, she used to call him "bhayya." His electronic device has been confiscated and submitted for a thorough digital forensic analysis to find any further CSEAM material and to aid in future probes. The rescued minor was provided with the appropriate assistance, and her parents have also received counselling. "A case has been registered in Cr. No. 38/2026 under Section 67-B of the IT Act and Sections 15, 3, and 4 of the POCSO Act at HQ CCPS of TGCSB. The accused has been remanded to judicial custody," the release outlined. The authorities stated, "This is the second case in 2026 where TGCSB successfully rescued a minor girl victim, approximately 5 years old." The abusers in both cases were identified and taken into custody by the TGCSB's CCPS (Cyber Crime Police Station) Headquarters. Furthermore, they shared a close relationship with the victims. The police conveyed that crimes involving child sexual abuse are frequently hidden, and the majority of offenders are known to the family or victim. They emphasised that vigilance must be exercised when it pertains to the people entrusted with the care of our children. "TGCSB is continuously working to detect and stop such crimes using advanced technology and focused investigations. Strict and immediate legal action will be taken against anyone involved in harming children," the notification warned. It added, "These heartbreaking incidents reflect a disturbing reality within society, where trust and safety within families and communities are sometimes violated. It underscores the urgent need for greater awareness, vigilance, and collective responsibility to protect our children and ensure they grow up in a safe environment." The police strongly encouraged parents and guardians to keep a close eye on the online and offline safety of their kids. "Any suspicious activity must be reported without delay. Protecting children is a shared responsibility, and only through awareness, vigilance, and timely action can we ensure a safe environment for every child. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious online activity involving children through appropriate cybercrime reporting channels," they mentioned.
