Vijayawada: NTR district joint collector S Ilakkiya clarified that there is no shortage of LPG in the district and appealed to the public not to panic. She informed that a special officer has been appointed for each gas agency to ensure effective monitoring of supply and demand. She spoke at a media conference held at the collectorate here on Tuesday. She said the district currently has 8,63,778 LPG connections under three major oil companies. She said a total of 56 gas agencies are operating in the district, including 18 HPCL, 12 BPCL, and 26 IOCL agencies. She pointed out that on March 30 alone, 15,186 refill bookings were received, while 19,440 cylinders were successfully delivered, clearly indicating that supply is exceeding demand. She emphasised that the district administration is maintaining continuous and strict monitoring of LPG distribution to prevent any disruption. In areas where pending deliveries are reported to be high, supply managers are being instructed to take immediate corrective steps to streamline distribution. She further clarified that not only domestic LPG cylinders but also commercial gas cylinder supplies have been functioning smoothly since Monday. She appealed to consumers to book cylinders only when necessary and avoid panic-driven demand. Highlighting measures to curb black marketing, Ilakkiya stated that nearly 90% of LPG cylinder deliveries are now being carried out through OTP-based authentication. She noted that a show-cause notice has been issued to Bhaskar Gas Agency in Kanchikacherla for failing to comply with norms. Strict action would be taken against anyone involved in black marketing or creating artificial scarcity, she warned. To address public grievances, a command control centre has been set up at the Collectorate, and citizens can contact 91549 70454 for assistance or complaints. Looking ahead, Ilakkiya encouraged residents to gradually shift towards piped natural gas (PNG), which offers a safer, cost-effective, and uninterrupted supply. She noted that currently only around 10,000 PNG connections exist in the district and stressed the need to expand its usage in view of future energy demands. District Supply Officer Palnati Vani and ASO V Srinivas were also present at the media briefing.
