BCB Director Rubaba declines comment on India-Bangladesh cricket ties

New Delhi, March 31: Bangladesh Cricket Board director Rubaba Dowla declined to comment on the status of cricketing ties between India and Bangladesh, even as the board confirmed plans to launch a women's edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) later this year. Speaking on Tuesday, Dowla, who also heads the women's wing of the BCB, said the board is preparing to roll out a T20 league for women in July 2026. However, she remained tight-lipped on the prospects of resuming bilateral cricket between the two neighbouring nations. Cricketing relations between India and Bangladesh have remained uncertain following the postponement of scheduled tours by both the men's and women's teams last year, amid prevailing conditions in Bangladesh. The situation had further strained ties during the tenure of the interim government, with concerns raised in India over safety issues. The tensions were also reflected in developments around franchise cricket and global tournaments. The Board of Control for Cricket in India had earlier instructed Kolkata Knight Riders to release Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman from their IPL 2026 squad, a move that drew strong reactions from Bangladesh. In response, the BCB had sought relocation of its matches in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 from India, citing security concerns, though the request was rejected by the International Cricket Council.
