Dibrugarh: A potentially catastrophic situation was averted in Tinsukia district on Tuesday after the Indian Army's Red Shield Division successfully neutralised two World War II-era unexploded bombs discovered at Ledo, Burma Camp, Lekhapani.The dangerous ordnance -- comprising a General Purpose bomb and an incendiary bomb dating back to the World War-II -- was unearthed by a civilian who was digging a pit on the premises. The discovery immediately triggered alarm among local residents, given the severe threat the decades-old munitions posed to life and property in the densely inhabited area.Acting swiftly on inputs from the civil administration, the Red Shield Division mobilised a specialised Bomb Disposal Team to the site without delay. Security personnel cordoned off the area and evacuated civilians from the surrounding vicinity, establishing a secure perimeter to ensure strict adherence to established safety protocols."The timely and professional response of our Bomb Disposal Team ensured that the situation was brought under complete control without any harm to civilians or property," an Army official stated.The unexploded bombs were carefully secured and transported to a designated safe location, well away from habitation. They were subsequently neutralised through a controlled demolition operation, eliminating all risk of detonation without any collateral damage to the surrounding area.
Imphal: In a series of coordinated operations, the Indian Army and other law enforcement agencies arrested 13 cadres from hill and valley-based underground groups in Manipur and recovered 23 weapons, grenades, ammunition, and other war-like stores.
