Lucknow: UP has to set a 100-100-60 target to improve childhood cancer care in the state. The plan aims to ensure 100% access to treatment, 100% financial protection, and a 60% survival rate among children with cancer by 2030. This was discussed during a consultation programme -- Change for Childhood Cancer in Uttar Pradesh 'From Challenge to Change' -- organised by CanKids KidsCan on Monday.Over 100 govt officials, doctors and representatives of non-govt organisations attended the programme.Additional chief secretary and principal secretary, health and family welfare and medical education, Amit Kumar Ghosh said, "The state is working to ensure that every child with cancer is identified, diagnosed and treated on time. A structured paediatric oncology task force will form for regular review, coordination and integration of childhood cancer care within the state's broader cancer strategy. The task force will guide the childhood cancer project, review progress, advise the govt, strengthen systems and coordinate stakeholders," he said.Founder-chairman of CanKids KidsCan, Poonam Bagai said, "UP has the potential to become the world's leading model for childhood cancer care, demonstrating how large, high-burden regions can deliver on 100% access, 100% financial protection and 60% survival."Co-founder and UP board member of CanKids, Sonal Sharma said the first phase of the programme focused on improving access to treatment, involving all 75 districts and strengthening the system. She said the second phase will focus on strengthening shared care systems, building capacity at the district level and ensuring support for families.Officials said early detection, timely treatment and financial support will be important to improve survival rates.
