Jammu, Mar 30 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday said that despite global turmoil over the past decade, India has maintained its position as the world's fastest-growing major economy due to its leadership. Addressing the closing ceremony of a special phase marking 150 years of the Vande Mataram celebrations at Abhinav Theatre here, the LG said that the crises ranging from Ukraine to West Asia had impacted most nations, but "under the able leadership and guidance of the Prime Minister, India has emerged resilient." The week-long special phase, organised from March 23 to 30, commemorated Shaheedi Diwas and honoured the sacrifices of freedom fighters. Highlighting the significance of Vande Mataram, Sinha described it as a symbol of national identity and strength. "It is not just verses but a profound experience woven into our civilisation's fabric," he said, adding that such events revive memories of immortal martyrs and renew commitment to India's glory. The enthusiastic response to earlier phases of the Vande Mataram @150 celebrations reflected a positive transformation in Jammu and Kashmir, he noted, underlining that in the first phase held in November 2025, nine of the top ten performing districts were from the Union Territory, while in the second phase in January 2026, six districts from J&K featured among the best performers. Sinha said the fervour surrounding the programme demonstrated how the Union territory has moved beyond its difficult past and embraced development and patriotism over the past several years. The Lieutenant Governor also urged political parties, civil society groups and citizens to join the fight against drug abuse and transform the "Nasha Mukt" campaign into a people's movement in Jammu and Kashmir.
