Chandigarh, Dec 16 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday delivered a strong message to gangsters and criminals, asserting that the state government will not tolerate any attempt to disturb law and order. Addressing a press conference here, Mann warned that the belief of escaping consequences after opening fire must be abandoned, as police will take strict action against those involved in gun violence. Responding to questions on the law and order situation, the Chief Minister blamed previous governments for allowing criminal networks to take root, saying the public is now bearing the consequences. He stated that the state administration is closely monitoring the situation and that police are working with a special focus on regions and countries from where repeated threat calls are being traced. Mann reiterated that no one would be allowed to disrupt peace in Punjab. On the murder of a kabaddi player, the Chief Minister said investigations are underway and assured that police are examining all aspects of the case. He also noted that controversies in kabaddi are not limited to Punjab but are seen globally. The Chief Minister also briefed the media on extensive preparations for the three-day Shaheedi Sabha at Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, which is expected to draw over five million devotees from across the world. The district has been divided into six sectors, each supervised by a sector magistrate and a senior police officer. More than 300 CCTV cameras will be installed, drones will be used for surveillance, and around 3,300 police personnel will be deployed for security, he said. An integrated control room has been set up for the three days to provide police, medical, and administrative assistance. Ten help counters will also function to report missing persons or deposit lost items. Police barricades will be in place at 72 locations in and around Fatehgarh Sahib, Mann said. To manage the influx of devotees, authorities have arranged five large and 16 smaller parking facilities. Free transport services will include around 200 shuttle buses and over 100 e-rickshaws connecting parking areas, nearby villages, and the gurdwara. Temporary accommodation has been arranged in the surrounding villages, the chief minister said. Medical arrangements include six dispensaries, 20 Aam Aadmi Clinics, deployment of doctors and paramedical staff, and 60 ambulances. A centralized blood donation camp will also be organized, with the administration directing organizations to seek prior permission, he said. The Chief Minister said volunteers from the Aam Aadmi Party will assist in cleanliness drives, supported by mechanized sweeping machines and hired vehicles for waste collection. Mobile companies have been asked to install temporary towers to ensure uninterrupted connectivity during the event. Special DGP Arpit Shukla added that police are coordinating with Google to provide real-time traffic and parking updates, enabling devotees to choose less crowded routes. Police personnel will also be deployed in plain clothes, he said. Mann further announced that the Fatehgarh Sahib area will remain a no-VIP zone during the event, with only shuttle buses and e-rickshaws permitted.
