The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has apprehended a 32-year-old software engineer from the Kondhwa area of Pune due to alleged connections with Al-Qaeda. Disturbing evidence has emerged, including images of him wielding an AK-47 rifle and constructing improvised explosives, as reported by officials on Wednesday. The suspect, named Zuber Hungargekar, was arrested on Monday under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Investigators revealed that digital materials found in his possession included an Urdu translation of speeches by Osama Bin Laden, the founder of the terrorist organization. Following Terror Propaganda As per ATS sources, Hungargekar had been downloading and engaging with Bin Laden's extremist speeches and literature online. Authorities suspect he may have utilized these resources to disseminate radical ideologies among local youth. "He was under electronic surveillance for nearly a month. Evidence indicated that he was consuming and potentially sharing extremist content online," an official stated. Photographs and videos of him assembling explosives. The ATS informed the court that the accused was engaged in anti-national activities and was planning potential attacks in Maharashtra and other cities across India. Originally from Solapur, the software engineer reportedly worked for an IT company in Kalyani Nagar and had a lucrative salary. Police noted that his professional background may have enabled him to utilize digital tools to obscure communications and data exchanges related to extremist activities. Last week, the ATS conducted raids at over 25 locations in Kondhwa, in connection with a terror funding case. Materials recovered during those searches led investigators to Hungargekar. "The recovered evidence is being examined to identify others who may be part of this network," an ATS officer confirmed.
