Ranchi: Ranchi, East Singhbhum and a few other districts received rain on Tuesday as cyclone Montha reached Kakinada and adjoined areas in Andhra Pradesh.The Ranchi office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded yellow alert for Jharkhand till October 31 stating that several pockets of Jharkhand will witness heavy rain accompanied by lightning and thunderstorm.Ranchi received 12mm rain, Khunti 10mm, Bahragora (East Singhbhum) 8mm, Chaibasa (West Singhbhum), Latehar, and Lohardaga 1.5mm each, and Jamshedpur 27.5mm.Senior scientist at IMD, Ranchi, Abhishek Anand, said, "On October 29, Simdega, Khunti, Lohardaga, Latehar, Ranchi, East Singhbhum, Sahibganj, Godda, and Pakur are expected to receive heavy rain.""Palamu, Garhwa, Chatra, Hazaribag, Giridih, Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla, Khunti, Ranchi, Ramgarh, Bokaro are likely to be lashed by heavy rain the next day," he added."On October 31, heavy rain accompanied by wind with 30-40km/hour speed and lightning are expected in Santhal Pargana region as the system will start moving over Jharkhand," he said.State disaster management and development minister Irfan Ansari said, "Instructions have been issued to all districts' disaster management wing to be on high alert, deploy NDRF/SDRF in sensitive areas, relocate people from low-lying areas, ensure proper power supply, communication systems and health services.""Block development officers and in-charges of police stations have been directed to maintain 24-hour monitoring and response systems.
