Jamshedpur: The monsoon has taken a firm hold over Jharkhand, delivering widespread and robust rainfall across the state, with East Singhbhum emerging as the wettest district so far. According to the latest data from the Ranchi Meteorological Centre, Jharkhand has received an actual rainfall of 611.5 mm till date -- marking a 70% surplus over the normal average of 359.8 mm for this period. Topping the list is East Singhbhum, which has recorded an impressive 1014.5 mm of rainfall -- 155% above normal. The abundant rains have not only rejuvenated agricultural prospects in the district but have also brought relief from the prolonged dry spells that preceded the monsoon's active phase. Other major gainers in this season's rainfall tally include Ramgarh (823.7 mm, +122%), Lohardaga (491.6 mm, +117%), and Latehar (766.5 mm, +117%), highlighting a widespread spatial distribution of rainfall across central and eastern Jharkhand. In contrast, a few districts such as Gumla (-4%) and Godda (-11%) are yet to meet their seasonal averages, reflecting localized deficiencies despite the overall state-level surplus. In the past 24 hours, many parts of the state witnessed light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm activity. Hunterganj in Chatra district recorded the state's highest 24-hour rainfall with 132 mm, underlining the intensity of ongoing weather systems. Meteorologists attribute the sustained rainfall activity to a depression that has formed over Southeast Uttar Pradesh. "As long as this trough remains active, Jharkhand can expect recurrent spells of showers."
