Chennai, Oct 28 (UNI) Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and actor Vijay today squarely blamed the M K Stalin-led DMK government for the ongoing farmers' distress, warning that a rising tide of resentment could "send the government packing home." Breaking his month-long silence following the September 27 stampede tragedy at his Karur rally, Vijay, in a statement, charged the government with being directly responsible for the damage and destruction of harvested paddy, which was left drenched at procurement centres across the Cauvery delta districts and elsewhere. Vijay asserted that the government's failure to address this "perennial issue" has left farmers in the lurch, despite the fact that rainfall during this season is a recurring event. He questioned the government's lack of preparedness, demanding to know what specific steps had been taken to construct sheds and yards, or to prevent waterlogging by diverting rain and flood waters into check dams and other storage facilities. "Not only rain during this season is a recurring one, farmers being deprived of the fruits of their labour because of the state government's insensitivity is a continuing one," Vijay said. He added, "With the north east monsoon yet to continue its spell, the government should take expeditious steps... Or else, the brewing resentment among the people and the farming community will grow further like the sprouting paddy bags and send the government packing home." Meanwhile, Vijay has reconstituted the 28-member TVK Executive Committee to carry out the day-to-day running of the party. The first meeting of the new body, chaired by Vijay, is scheduled for Wednesday (October 29, 2025) at suburban Panaiyur.
