Jaipur: Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Sachin Mittal assumed charge as the new Jaipur Police Commissioner from his predecessor Biju George Joseph at an official ceremony held at the Commissionerate Saturday.Outlining his key thrust areas after taking office, Mittal said addressing cybercrime would be his topmost policing priority. "There has been a sharp rise in cybercrime, and the challenge is that its modus operandi keeps evolving. We will make the best use of available resources to stay ahead of these patterns", he said."The city has expanded rapidly, and with that, the nature of policing challenges has changed as well. Our focus will be on maintaining law and order and controlling crime while also ensuring smooth traffic arrangements", he added. Mittal emphasised that he would continue the outgoing commissioner's initiative of public hearings (Jan Sunvai) at police stations to ensure citizens' grievances are heard directly. "It's a good platform for accountability and better communication between the police and the public. The idea is to resolve people's problems at the police station level, as far as possible", he said. Highlighting the administration's stance against organised crime, Mittal said the appointment of IG-rank officer Rahul Prakash as special commissioner (Operations) would be key to tackling gang shootouts and related crimes in coordination with the state's Anti-Gang Task Force (AGTF).The new CP revealed that he had already held a preliminary meeting with Jaipur's DCPs, and the next step would be detailed consultations with all four zonal officers to assess areas of policing that need to be strengthened.He also emphasised the need to reinforce the beat policing system, describing it as the backbone of community engagement and preventive policing. "Sometimes, major incidents or emergencies divert focus from routine beat work. But we intend to keep reinforcing this system because it is vital for maintaining public trust and ensuring better local surveillance", he said.Speaking to the media, Mittal recounted that it had been more than a decade since his last posting in Jaipur as additional commissioner, during which time the city had undergone massive transformations in terms of population, area, and policing needs, he added.
