Jaipur RTO begins inspection of long-distance buses | Jaipur News - The Times of India

Jaipur: The Jaipur Regional Transport Office (RTO) Saturday started a week-long inspection of long-distance buses following the bus fire on Jodhpur-Jaisalmer highway which claimed 26 lives recently. Jaipur RTO-I has formed an expert committee to carry out these inspections."We are focusing on three things during this inspection. First, we are checking whether these buses have valid permits and other necessary clearances. Second, we are ensuring these buses do not use fake chassis or registration plates. Lastly, we are checking the brand names written on the buses and if the owners violated any provisions while customising the interiors," stated Rajendra Singh Rathore, Jaipur RTO I.The decision came after at least 20 people died when a bus caught fire on the Jodhpur-Jaisalmer Highway on Oct 14. Investigations revealed that the fire broke out following a short circuit in the air-conditioning system of the bus. Investigations also revealed that the door of the bus got jammed, preventing the passengers from escaping on board."We are determined not to allow any buses from plying in and out of Jaipur violating the RTO norms. The inspection will determine the level of violations these bus owners and bus drivers commit. On day one, we issued more than 50 challans for different types of violations," a transport official stated. On Saturday, the RTO team carried out inspections at different bus stops across the city, including Sindhi Camp and Transport Nagar bus stand. Officials stated such inspections would continue throughout this week, at least until Friday.
