Pvt bus operators push for permit deadline extn | Jaipur News - Times of India

Jaipur: Private bus operators in the state are requesting an extension of the application period for Lok Parivahan Sewa route permits from 15 days to one month as they are facing difficulties in acquiring new buses within the current timeframe. The state govt plans to issue 2,000 permits to enhance rural connectivity.Kailash Sharma, president of Private Bus Operator Association Stage Carriage, Jaipur, said, "The notification for applying for route permits was issued this week, and 15 days' time was given, which is not sufficient. As per the criteria, buses of the 2025 model can apply for the permits, and if one must purchase a bus, then it takes a minimum of three to six months. Even if one applies with the chassis number of the bus, it will still take around a month." Operators said that new permits for public transport should include buses of at least the previous two calendar years. Subhash Chaudhary, convenor of Bus Operators Association, said, "The age of the permit at present is nine years, and replacement of buses has to be done every three years. Due to the high costs of buses, replacement is not always possible, and there should be a rule for checking the fitness of the bus and then accordingly renewing the permit to the operator."After a decade, in May, the state transport department issued a notification approving the issuing of permits to private bus operators on 476 routes across the state under the Lok Parivahan service. Around 2,000 permits are to be issued to private operators. The state govt opened permits for public transport service on 476 routes in 2015, when 3,000 permits were to be issued, but a little over 1,000 were issued then. The remaining 2,000 permits were to be given, but the previous govt put a ban on issuing these permits.
