Panchkula: The special investigation team (SIT) probing the death of former Punjab DGP (human rights) Mohammad Mustafa's son, Aqil Akhtar, is yet to recover a diary which contains the latter's dying declaration and could be crucial evidence in the case.In a purported social media post on Oct 3, the deceased shared a picture of the diary and wrote, "In case I die, this diary has my dying declaration. And I be checked for aluminum phosphide poisoning." An alleged screenshot of the post is available.SIT members inspected the crime scene on Thursday, but did not find the diary. They also examined his medical records and records from drug rehabilitation centres, and spoke to staff members about the case.A police officer told TOI that they earlier asked Mustafa about the diary, and he said he would hand over both the diary and the mobile phone of the deceased once he returned to Panchkula from his native place, Saharanpur, where his family went for his last rites.When TOI spoke to Mustafa, he said he had nothing to hide. He said he had been transparent and will remain so. He stated that his son wrote all the same things he spoke about in the video. "He also wrote he may die of a drug overdose. He, however, has written in the later pages that he loves his kids very much," shared Mustafa.Police said the family is expected to return to Panchkula on Oct 26. After this, the SIT will proceed with its investigation and question all four members named in the FIR. The cops earlier called them for questioning, but the family expressed inability to come immediately due to death-related ceremonies.Apart from Mustafa, his wife and former PWD minister Razia Sultana, their daughter, and daughter-in-law were booked under sections 103(1) (murder) and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of the BNS at MDC police station of Panchkula. This followed certain social media posts and videos, purportedly made by the deceased before his death, alleging personal disputes and apprehensions about threats to his life.
