'Gau rakshak' shot at near Pocharam, accused on the run | Hyderabad News - The Times of India

Hyderabad: A 28-year-old 'gau rakshak' was shot at by an assailant near Yamnampet under Pocharam IT Corridor PS limits on Wednesday. The victim sustained a bullet injury in his chest and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Secunderabad. His condition is said to be stable.'Gau Raksha Dal' members alleged a suspected cattle trader was behind the attack, prompting police to launch a manhunt for the accused.On Wednesday evening, Sonu Singh from Attapur and currently residing at Rampally, was shot at near a school by Ibrahim, a resident of Bahadurpura. After walking for a distance, Sonu collapsed at a tea shop nearby. Police was alerted on Dial 100 by an individual at the tea stall. Police rushed the victim to a nearby hospital and later to a corporate hospital in Secunderabad. The assailant fled in a four-wheeler."Sonu is undergoing treatment. His condition is stable as of now. Our teams are on the lookout for the assailant," Malkajgiri DCP PV Padmaja said. During the preliminary investigation, Rachakonda police found that the victim, along with three to four other men, including the assailant, arrived in a four-wheeler at an open area where the incident occurred."After reaching the spot, the four men exited the vehicle, and one of them, identified as Ibrahim from Bahadurpura, shot at Sonu Singh. After firing at Sonu, the assailant, along with others, fled in the car," a Rachakonda police official said. The four other men are from Shadnagar, Bahadurpura, and Chandrayangutta. They all met in Shamshabad and travelled to Pocharam to meet Sonu. "The victim and the assailants knew one another. Some people are alleging that the accused are cattle sellers and they assaulted Sonu since he is a 'Gau Raksha Dal' activist. Our teams are looking for the accused and we are trying to find out what was the reason behind the attack," Pocharam police said. A case was registered under section 109 (attempt to murder) and the Arms Act. Late in the night, police reportedly took some of the accused into custody. "We condemn the attack on Sonu Singh. We demand police to arrest the accused immediately," Mahesh Agarwal, president, Telangana Goshala Federation, said.
