JAMMU: In a decisive move, the Jammu administration has disconnected electricity and water supply to an illegal Rohingya settlement near Nideesh Enclave, Channi Rama, following a complaint lodged by the Residents' Welfare Association of the locality. The action was taken after the office of the Tehsildar Bahu received a formal application from the association, raising concerns over the unauthorized occupation of government land by a group of Rohingyas. According to the complaint, the settlers had erected makeshift Jugis (huts) and were allegedly operating illegal scrap businesses, posing serious law and order, sanitation, and safety issues for residents. The letter further noted frequent quarrels, disturbances, and a lack of sanitation in the area, leading to growing unease among local families. The residents urged the authorities to take immediate action to restore peace and public hygiene in the neighbourhood. Taking cognizance of the issues, the Tehsildar Bahu directed concerned departments to immediately disconnect all electricity and water connections to the illegally occupied plots. Departments have also been instructed to report back to the Tehsildar's office with details of the action taken. The move signals a tough stance by the local administration on illegal encroachments.
