Berhampur: Health officials on Wednesday said the situation in Ganjam district's Ustapalli and S Mardarajpur villages, where several suspected diarrhoea cases were reported, is under control.While at least 20 people allegedly suffered from the water-borne disease and two died in Ustapalli since Saturday, eight were affected by suspected acute diarrhoeal disease (ADD) in S Mardarajpur on Tuesday. "Except six persons from Ustapalli, who are undergoing treatment in MKCG Medical College and Hospital, all other patients of both villages have been cured. The condition of all the patients is stable," said Sukant Kumar Nayak, chief district medical officer (CDMO), Ganjam.He said Prakash Rait (35) of Ustapalli, who died on the way to Digapahandi hospital, did not suffer from diarrhoea. "Investigation confirmed that he died due to acid peptic disease (APD) with acute abdominal pain and not diarrhoea," he said."Medical teams are camped in both villages to treat any patients with the symptoms of water-borne diseases," Nayak said. A medical team along with the rapid action team carried out door to door visits in Ustapalli. The teams collected samples from water sources and patients. The reports are yet to be received, sources said.The health teams also created awareness among the villagers to drink boiled water and advised them to wash their hands before eating. Health officials have asked the engineers of rural water supply and sanitation (RWSS) to disinfect the water sources. Ustapalli has two tube wells and a small pond. Villagers used water from tube wells for drinking and the pond for bathing, sources said.
