Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday hit back at Delhi minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa for blaming the AAP govt in Punjab for the toxic haze over the national capital, accusing him of trying to defame the state's farmers with "false claims." Earlier in the day, Sirsa alleged that Punjab forced farmers to burn a record amount of paddy stubble on Diwali night. Showing videos purportedly of burning crop residue in Punjab, Sirsa alleged that the highest number of stubble-burning incidents occurred on the festival. AAP spokesperson Neel Garg said in a video statement, "Sirsa's BJP govt that has turned Delhi into a gas chamber is blaming Punjab for the air pollution. If the paddy stubble in Punjab is responsible for poor air quality in Delhi, then why is it that the AQI levels in the state were still 150 but touched 1,000 in the national capital?"Garg added, "The truth is that Punjab's farmer has been cooperating. The AAP govt has been providing them with crop residue machines, which has resulted in a dip in the incidence of stubble burning. There have only been a negligible number of cases in the state. In sharp contrast, the stubble burning cases have been going up in BJP-ruled Haryana and Uttar Pradesh." The AAP spokesperson accused Sirsa of trying to defame farmers while asking him how he would face them on his next visit to the state.
