Ayodhya Deepotsav 2025: Ayodhya is gearing up for its grand ninth Deepotsav celebration, which promises to surpass previous editions in scale and splendour. Scheduled for Diwali eve on October 19, the event plans to illuminate the Saryu ghats with more than 26 lakh earthen lamps, aiming for a new world record, according to the Uttar Pradesh government. The festival already holds a coveted place in the Guinness World Records. In 2023, it created two milestones, one for the highest number of people performing diya rotation simultaneously, and another for lighting 25,12,585 lamps, a feat jointly organised by the state tourism department and the local administration. The event has drawn participation from across the region, with volunteers from 28 degree colleges, 30 inter-colleges, and numerous social organisations contributing to the preparations. Organisers have arranged 73,000 litres of oil, 55 lakh cotton wicks, and enlisted 33,000 volunteers to illuminate over 26 lakh diyas across 56 ghats. Of these, 10 lakh diyas are being supplied by industrial units and self-help groups, while 16 lakh diyas are handcrafted by women's self-help groups and potter families from Ayodhya and neighbouring districts. To maintain cleanliness post-celebration, around 785 workers will be engaged in removing the lamps after the ceremony.
