KARUR: TVK has transferred 20 lakh each as relief to the families of the 41 people who lost their lives in the stampede during party founder Vijay's public rally at Velusamypuram in Karur on Sept 27.In a statement, the party said the relief amount has been deposited in the bank accounts of 38 families in five districts. Tamil Nadu govt has already provided 10 lakh each as compensation to the families. Vijay would visit the families as soon as permission is granted by authorities, it said.The stampede is currently under investigation by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) following directions from the Supreme Court.Before the Supreme Court intervened, Madras high court had ordered an investigation by a team headed by IGP Asra Garg and the state govt had ordered a probe by retired HC judge Aruna Jagadeesan.In the aftermath of the Karur stampede, TVK on Saturday advised its cadres not to celebrate Diwali.TVK propaganda joint secretary Loyola Mani conveyed the advice of actor and TVK president Vijay to party cadres on X. "Based on the advice of Vijay, we should avoid celebrating Deepavali to pay homage to the deceased," Mani wrote on X. There was, however, no official announcement from either TVK or Vijay.Meanwhile, TVK was widely criticized on social media for celebrating Ayudha Pooja three days after the tragedy.
