Vijayawada: Guntur Railway Police Thursday detained a suspect for allegedly raping and robbing at knifepoint a 35-year-old woman passenger from Andhra Pradesh aboard the ladies' compartment of Santragachi Special Express (07222) on Oct 13.In her complaint, the woman stated that she was travelling from AP's Rajahmahendravaram to Hyderabad's Cherlapally and was alone in the compartment when the alleged crime occurred between Guntur and Peddakurapadu stations. She claimed that the accused -- now identified as Jonnalagadda Raja Rao (aged around 40) from AP's Palnadu district -- entered the coach, locked the door, thrashed and sexually assaulted her before decamping with Rs 5,600 cash and her cellphone.On receiving her complaint, Secunderabad GRP registered a zero-FIR under BNS Sections 64 (rape) and 309(4) (robbery) and transferred the case to Nadikudi GRP station."Based on the survivor's description, RPF and GRP teams analysed CCTV footage and identified the suspect," GRP (Guntur) DSP Atcheswara Rao said. The accused had replaced her SIM card with his own and began using the phone. Police tracked the device and traced him to Tenali in AP, from where he was picked up Thursday morning, sources stated.
