Bengaluru: Days after a video of a rowdy-sheeter celebrating his birthday inside the prison and recording it on mobile phones went viral, a departmental inquiry has been initiated against seven officials of the central prison, Parappana Agrahara. The video shows Srinivasa, alias Gubacchi Seena, lodged at the central prison in connection with a murder case, celebrating his birthday with a bash.Seena, who allegedly murdered a rival in Jan, had attacked a Sarjapura police constable in Feb, prompting cops to fire at him in self-defence. He was lodged in the prison after discharge from hospital.According to the prisons and correctional services department, a chief warder, a warder, an assistant superintendent, two jailers, and two assistant jailers are under scrutiny. The deputy inspector general of prisons (DIGP south range) KC Divyashree has recommended the suspension of the chief warder and the warder on duty during the celebration on Sept 5.As the footage went viral, a complaint was lodged at Parappana Agrahara police station on Oct 4, prompting an investigation into how the prisoners obtained mobile phones. A non-cognisable report (NCR) has been registered.Authorities said action against the officials will be taken after examining the inquiry report.
