Chittoor, Oct 3 (UNI) Police today arrested three youths in Andhra Pradesh for the gangrape and robbery of a teenage girl at a park in the Murakabattu area on the outskirts of Chittoor. Chittoor sub-division DSP T Sainath told the media that the three accused had spotted the teenage couple at the park on September 9. They threatened the boy at knifepoint, gangraped the girl, and later robbed the couple of their valuables. The victim lodged a complaint with the police on September 29. A case was registered under various sections of the law, including the POCSO Act, 2012, and the SC/ST (POA) Amendment Act, 2013. Special teams were formed, which arrested the three accused today on the Chennamma Gudipalli highway. The arrested were identified as M. Mahesh (21), P. Kishore (31), and J. Hemanth Prasad (27). The DSP noted that the accused allegedly targeted couples seeking privacy in the park, committing the heinous crime, videographing it, and then robbing them. The police seized mobile phones from the accused. It was revealed that Mahesh had a prior involvement in an eve-teasing case in 2019, while Kishore was involved in selling liquor illegally in 2022. DSP Sainath stated that authorities would coordinate with the Forest Department to install CCTV cameras in desolate areas to prevent the recurrence of such crimes.
