Sandhi puja combines prayers with fun, food, games | Lucknow News - The Times of India

Lucknow: Devotees thronged Durga Puja pandals on Ashtami (eighth day of Durga Puja) at city pandals on Tuesday for Sandhi puja and festivities like dhunuchi dance, musical drama, kids competition and bhog.In Sandhi Puja, Goddess Chamunda, slayer of demons Chanda and Mund, was worshipped with garlands of 108 bael leaves, 108 lotus flowers and 108 jasmine flowers and with lighting of 108 lamps forming 'Om' symbol, said president of the managing committee of Kali Bari temple, Ghasiyari Mandi. Women in sarees, lehengas and jewellery and men in colourful kurtas clicked selfies, while children in dhoti-kurtas enjoyed icecream and candy floss.At Sahara Estate, 22 underprivileged children from slum areas were served bhog, received gifts and got to buy things from stalls for free, said committee president Ram Avtar Pandey.At Rabindrapalli Puja Park, visitor Swastika Banerjee said, "I work in Noida and took a week off to celebrate Durga Puja with my family." Namita Das at Rabindrapalli, who performed dhunuchi dance, said, "Enthusiasm to perform dhunuchi dance comes from within."At Mitro Sangho Durga Puja, musical chairs was played and several women and girls won prizes.
