Jaipur: Jaipur ranks third in the country for a number of crimes, including murder, theft, sexual harassment, and outraging the modesty of women.The one crime, however, that is a real cause for concern for city cops is cheating.Data released Tuesday by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) for 2023 shows Jaipur registering the highest number of cheating cases in cities across the country - a total of 3,331.The Pink City is followed closely by Bengaluru with 3,109 cases, New Delhi with 2,766 cases, and Mumbai with 2,445 cases. A number of these cases involve cheating by means of cloned debit and credit cards."We are cracking down hard on cheating cases and have successfully nabbed many organised crime gangs involved in such activities", a senior officer at the Jaipur police commissionerate said."Many times, however, such cases are filed to settle loan disputes between people, where money lenders get cheated by borrowers", he added.When it comes to thefts, Jaipur stands third with 10,003 cases, after Bengaluru with 10,438 cases and the National Capital with an undisputed 228,173 cases.The same trend can be observed in kidnappings, where Jaipur takes third position with 939 cases, after Bengaluru with 1,203 cases and New Delhi with 5,867.The city similarly places third in murders, with 131 cases registered in 2023, after Bengaluru with 215 cases and New Delhi with 521 cases.Other crimes where Jaipur ranks high among other cities in the country include cases of outraging the modesty of women.
