Hyderabad: A 24-year-old welder was stabbed and bludgeoned to death by friends during a drunken brawl behind his house in Kokapet on Tuesday.The victim, K Yadagiri, lived in a flat in a govt double-bedroom housing complex in Kokapet. On Monday night, Yadagiri and his friends -- Afroz, an auto driver; Nawaz, a CCTV camera technician; and Ajay Yadav, a private worker -- were drinking in an open space behind their flats. All four friends lived in the same complex. Late that night, they ran out of alcohol and went to buy more in Afroz's auto rickshaw.On their way back to the housing complex after buying the alcohol, they stole a mobile phone from an unknown person near the Kokapet flyover. At around 2 am on Tuesday, as they began drinking again, an argument broke out between Afroz and Yadagiri over the stolen phone. Shortly afterwards, Yadagiri had another argument with Nawaz about a woman they both liked. During this argument, Afroz suddenly pulled a knife out of his pocket and stabbed Yadagiri. Nawaz hit him on the head with a stick. Yadav fled the scene during the assault. Upon hearing the victim's screams, locals alerted the Narsingi police.Police, along with the victim's family members, shifted Yadagiri to a nearby private hospital. After receiving initial treatment, he was transferred to Osmania General Hospital (OGH), where he was declared dead. On Tuesday evening, the Narsingi police arrested Afroz and Nawaz in Kokapet. The police are trying to retrieve the stolen mobile phone from the accused.
