Army deploys advanced tech along LoC to curb infiltration

Srinagar, Sep 29: The Indian Army has stepped up its surveillance along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir by deploying advanced technology to counter infiltration and cross-border terrorism, senior officials said on Monday. A senior Army officer told Rising Kashmir that security forces are now combining human intelligence with sophisticated surveillance systems in sensitive sectors such as Keran, Machil, Karna, Uri, and Tangdhar. "Our troops are equipped with modern tools to detect suspicious activity, infiltration attempts, and enemy movement. This integration of technology has strengthened our defensive posture," the officer said. The Army has installed high-resolution 360-degree CCTV cameras and other electronic sensors along stretches of the LoC, ensuring round-the-clock monitoring. In addition, hand-held drones, quadcopters, and long-range UAVs are being used to provide aerial surveillance of difficult terrain and forested areas. "These devices ensure round-the-clock monitoring and allow troops to track real-time movements along the fence between the two countries," he said. The official said the feeds from these devices provide real-time situational awareness to troops on the ground. If movement is detected at any location, it is instantly verified by the deployed personnel, and necessary action is taken without delay," he said. Army official said that while high-tech devices have boosted monitoring capacity, human vigilance remains paramount. "Technology improves our ability to respond swiftly, but troops remain on high alert as the adversary continually seeks to disrupt peace," the officer said. The Army also underscored its preparedness to deal with ceasefire violations and other border threats. He said advanced surveillance systems have already proven critical during earlier skirmishes, enabling forces to access live feeds from any point along the fence. According to the Army, these technological upgrades are part of a broader strategy to maintain strong defenses along the LoC. "Innovations such as real-time surveillance and remote monitoring enhance our ability to safeguard the border and respond to evolving security challenges," he said. The Army said that the integration of these systems underscores its commitment to adapting to modern warfare challenges and ensuring peace and stability in the region. On Sunday, two heavenly armed terrorists were killed in the Keran sector of Kupwara district after security forces foiled a major infiltration attempt along the LoC. When challenged, the infiltrators opened fire, leading to a brief but fierce exchange of gunfire. In the ensuing encounter, both terrorists were neutralised. "We believe the infiltration attempt is part of a wider push by terror groups operating from across the border. Such attempts usually spike in the weeks preceding winter," he said. Last week, Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF) Kashmir Frontier, Ashok Yadav, said that security forces are on high alert along the Line of Control (LoC) and are fully prepared to thwart infiltration attempts by terrorists. "The months before winter bring significant threats, but our forces are vigilant. We maintain a robust presence along the LoC and are ready to neutralize any infiltration bid," he added.
