NEW DELHI: After around 50 days on the run, Chaitanyananda Saraswati, alias Parthasarathy, former director of a management institute who is facing allegations of sexual harassment and fraud, was tracked to a hotel in Agra around 3.30am Sunday and arrested by Delhi Police. Saraswati was brought back to Delhi early in the day and produced before court at 3.40pm. Duty magistrate Ravi sent him to five days of police custody. Cops also seized his visiting cards, which described him as "Special Envoy of India" and member of "Joint Commission of BRICS". 'Saraswati changed a dozen hideouts'Saraswati had gone into hiding after 17 EWS scholarship students accused him of using abusive language, making unwanted physical contact, and sending obscene messages.Police said the accused even went so far as to falsely associate himself with the PMO. His associates reportedly made calls to reinforce this fake connection. Cops said he had been staying at various hotels in Vrindavan, Mathura and other places, often hiding in religious sites to avoid detection. He changed over a dozen hideouts, police said. The prosecution alleged that Saraswati molested several women and sought sexual favours from them, adding that the survivors' testimonies corroborated the allegation. "He gave them threats. CCTV cameras were installed to monitor their movements... some were installed in bathrooms. Around 16 girls have complained. Several other allegations need to be verified," it said.Counsel for the accused said 16-20 women had already recorded their statements. "You have already taken my phones, one iPad and luggage. I am diabetic, have anxiety issues and my monk's robes have been taken away. You want police custody only to harass me. In case you feel there is any threat to the women, that can be countered by taking me in judicial custody," the counsel said.The advocate appearing for the complainant said Saraswati needed to be confronted with the women's statements, digital evidence and other material. In response, the defence counsel said the prosecution was using "hollow words". He argued his client's conduct had nothing to do with the plea seeking custody. "They have data from 40 CCTV cameras. They have to show the requirement for police custody."Police said the investigation revealed Saraswati had obtained two passports under different names -- Swami Parthasarathy and Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati -- with different details about his parents and place of birth. Saraswati had two bank accounts with Union Bank of India under two names."It was found that he was involved in shady dealings related to Sharada Peeth, a plot allotted in Vasant Kunj in 1998 for building a 'mutt'. Saraswati allegedly changed its name to Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management without permission in 2008 and even rented out a property without authorisation," a senior police officer said.
