NEW DELHI: The launch of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited's (BSNL) indigenous 4G network has secured India's future, said a top executive of the state-controlled telecom carrier on Saturday. "The nationwide rollout of our indigenous 4G network, built on the strength of collaboration with TCS (Tata Consultancy Services), Tejas Networks, and C-DoT (Centre for Development of Telematics), is a resounding declaration of an Atmanirbhar Bharat," said Robert J Ravi, CMD, BSNL, in a statement. "The 'Made in Bharat' stack, brought to life by the relentless dedication of team BSNL, secures our digital future and ensures that the fruits of connectivity empower every citizen, bridging the digital divide like never before," Ravi said. At an event in Jharsuguda, Odisha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated BSNL's indigenous 4G network at nearly 1 lakh sites nationwide. With this launch, India becomes the fifth country in the world, after China, Finland, South Korea, and Sweden, to have built a self-reliant, indigenous telecom technology stack supporting 4G and beyond. The fourth-generation network will provide high-speed internet connectivity to more than 26,700 villages for the time, and enable more than 2.2 crore citizens to access 4G at affordable data rates. The Tata group IT services firm, in a company statement, said that it spearheaded the BSNL 4G project execution by establishing data centers, installing and commissioning C-DoT's EPC (Evolved Packet Core) Application, Tejas Networks' base stations and radio infrastructure over 1 lakh 4G sites. The network is leveraging TCS' Cognitive Network Operations (TCS CNOPS) platform for 24x7 real-time network management. The project is governed in 'mission-mode' by TCS, BSNL, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), with the active involvement of McKinsey & Co, C-DoT, Tejas Networks, I&C Partners, among others. It was completed within two years, making it one of the fastest 4G network deployments with full integration into BSNL's existing 2G and 3G network infrastructure. Sandeep Govil, Director (consumer mobility-CM), BSNL said, "This Swadeshi 4G technology, a result of brilliant innovation by C-DOT, Tejas, TCS, and the tireless efforts of BSNL's workforce, is engineered for excellence and scalability." Govil said that the network is ready to evolve to 5G and beyond, ensuring that India's growth story is powered by sovereign, homegrown technology.
