Patna, Dec 25 (UNI) Former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly, Tejaswi Yadav, on Wednesday condemned the lathicharge on the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) aspirants and termed it as a brutal action upon the peacefully demonstrating aspirants in support of their demands for reexamination of the preliminary test of the 70th BPSC. Through his post on social media X, Yadav slammed the government for the action. He alleged that mentally sick people were running the state, and they were unaware of what was happening in Bihar? Yadav further alleged that the BJP has crossed the limits of hooliganism in the state by justifying the use of police brutality against the state service civil aspirants. RJD Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha questioned the kind of governance evolving in the state where brutal actions were taken against those candidates who were agitating for their genuine demands. On his social media account X, he said that the candidates should be heard and constructive initiative should be taken. Meanwhile, commenting on police lathicharge on the 70th BPSC aspirants, JDU chief spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said that BPSC is a constitutional body and any complaint with evidence should be sent on the WhatsApp number and email ID of the Commission. He said no evidence is provided through any other means. Kumar blamed Tejaswi Yadav for jeopardizing the lives of the aspirants by instigating them. Earlier, police resorted to lathicharge on the aspirants protesting for past eight days in the state capital when they attempted to 'gherao' (surround) the BPSC office in late evening on Wednesday. The protesters were agitating against the alleged 'irregularities' in the BPSC exam and were demanding for reexamination of the PT of 70th BPSC. The aspirants have been staging protests in Gardanibagh for several days, expressing their grievances on the alleged irregularities and malpractices in the examination. Several visuals of different channels showed the protesting students marching towards the BPSC office to put forth their demands, which led to the escalation of the situation as the police used force to disperse the crowd. Meanwhile, according to the police media cell, Sachiwalay SDPO-1 Anu Kumari the aspirants unlawfully surrounded the BPSC office, causing law and order issues and disturbing the public. She said that police had to use mild force to disperse the crowd, with no injuries. FIRs (first information reports) have been filed against those inciting the protests, and legal notices are being sent. The BPSC, however, ruled out the cancellation of the 70th Integrated Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) 2024, conducted earlier this month amid allegations of a question paper leak. A notification was issued by the commission on Tuesday for conducting the re-examination on January four for candidates who appeared at the Bapu Pariksha Parisar examination centre on December 13. Chairman of BPSC Parmar Mannu Bhai had said that the PT held on December 13 at Bapu Examination Centre in Patna was cancelled after reviewing the preliminary investigation report of disturbance created by some examinees and other anti-social elements. PT held at 911 other centres across the state was peaceful without any irregularity, so there was no need to torture examinees of these centre to take fresh examination again. A total of 4.75 to 4.80 lakh examinees had appeared in PT at 912 centres across the state on December 13 including Bapu examination centre in Patna. Meanwhile, according to a release issued from the district magistrate office, the aspirants were being instigated by some owners of the coaching institutes who were disturbing the law and order. The release said that most of the protesters were not examinees and had nothing to do with the examination. The release further said that when the protesters tried to 'gherao' the BPSC office on Wednesday, police tried to convince them, failing which a mild lathicharge was resorted upon to disperse the mob.
