Hyderabad: A 39-year-old psychiatric patient at a rehabilitation centre in Miyapur was brutally attacked by his two roommates on Wednesday evening. He later succumbed to his injuries.Police identified the deceased as Sandeep, a native of Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh. His attackers -- Suleiman from Nalgonda district and Adil from Barkas -- were also inmates at Rafa Rehabilitation Centre. Officials said the trio often clashed, but their arguments turned deadly this week. According to Miyapur station house officer P Shiva Prasad, the two accused forcibly took Sandeep to a small kitchen attached to their balcony. They locked the door before launching a violent assault. "They attacked him on the head with a stick and a nail cutter, leaving him with severe injuries to his face, eyes, and head," the SHO said. This is second such incident involving a rehabilitation centre in the city in the last one month. A 50-year-old centering labourer, Krishna Goud, was beaten to death in Jyothy Rehabilitation Centre in Keesara in Aug by an inmate following a petty argument. Goud, who was addicted to alcohol, was receiving treatment at the facility. Sandeep had been undergoing psychiatric treatment at the centre for the past eight months. Suleiman and Adil were admitted only a month ago for de-addiction treatment related to alcohol and ganja abuse. Police said all three had been admitted by their families voluntarily. After the assault, rehabilitation staff rushed Sandeep to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead. It was hospital authorities who informed the police about the incident. Police arrested Suleiman and Adil on Thursday. Investigators revealed that one of the accused had smuggled in a nail cutter inside his bag, while the stick used in the assault was found in the balcony. The duo has been booked for murder.
