Chennai: In a reprieve to actors Srikanth and Krishna, who were arrested on charges of using cocaine, Madras high court on Tuesday granted them conditional bail. Granting the relief, Justice M Nirmal Kumar directed them to appear at the Nungambakkam police station daily until further orders.Actor Srikanth was arrested on June 23, while Krishna was arrested on June 26 in connection with a cocaine smuggling racket. Representing Srikanth, senior advocate John Sathyan submitted that Srikanth was arrested solely based on a confession given by the prime accused, Pradeep Kumar, who said that Srikanth used drugs. However, no drugs were seized from Srikanth, he said. "Srikanth was playing with his child at home when police came and arrested him," John said.Advocate Infant Dinesh, representing actor Krishna, argued that Krishna was arrested even though he cooperated with the summons issued by police and appeared for inquiry. He was communicated only the fact of arrest but not the reason for the same, which is against the law, he added. Further, a medical examination conducted on Krishna did not prove that he used any drug, including cocaine, he said.Opposing the arguments, the prosecution contended that during the investigation of an attempt to murder case involving former AIADMK functionary Prasath, information about the drug racket came to light.
