Srinagar, Sep 15: A prolonged closure of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has sparked a severe fuel shortage across Kashmir, sending anxious residents rushing to petrol stations in a wave of panic buying. The highway, the Valley's only all-weather road link to the rest of India, has remained blocked by recurring landslides, mudslides and shooting stones following weeks of relentless rainfall. With fuel tankers stranded en route, supplies have dwindled sharply. On Monday, petrol pumps in Srinagar witnessed chaotic scenes, with long queues stretching onto main roads and intersections. Many motorists arrived with jerry cans and bottles to stockpile fuel, worsening congestion and adding to the sense of crisis. "I visited almost four petrol stations but came back empty-handed," said Raheel Wani, a resident of Karan Nagar. "The shortage is worrying because petrol is essential.
